The congruous story here is that in these modern times, we are less and less likely to be untethered from technology. For many of us, our phone dependence is symbiotic and unrelenting. This has a direct effect on our nervous system. We, as human animals, need time to reset and clear out unnecessary data. We too need time to disconnect, relax, and rejuvenate. This is your reminder to escape back into yourself by spending time away from your phone and technology. That means leaving it in another room when you take a bath, charging it at night in another room away from its presence. Another way is to put an off switch on your Wi-Fi router, turning it off at night while you sleep, and turning it back on when you wake up. Meditate if that’s your thing. If not, (and for many of us, it is not) find other things to power down like staring at a candle for 6 minutes, or an artistic hobby like painting, needlework, or sewing (my favorite new hobby!); doing a puzzle, or an adult coloring book - you might find these activities to be more calming and fun than you remember. Try getting out of your adult mind and engaging with your childhood imagination. Engage with that sense of wonder and creativity that is often stripped from us in adulthood. When was the last time you played outside, skipped, or swung on swings?
